Scherzo in F

Beethoven sped up the traditional 3rd movement minuet and called it a “joke,” or “scherzo” in Italian.
Fast and fun, these movements or single pieces are no joke to play, and are among his most seriously happy compositions!

The present “Scherzo in F” jokingly starts very slowly, speeds up to a more familiar triple-time feel (actually 6/8 in this case), and ends in a fast common time; all the while using variations of the same melody. It is about 7 minutes long, depending on tempos taken.
