1. Kyrie – Mass of the Divine Song
Mass narrative (See the introduction to this narrative on the first page) :
Something has gone terribly wrong in your life. Perhaps a family tragedy, a misunderstanding, or a business error in a department you supervise, which makes you responsible. You feel terrible but don’t know how to make things right. Others have been seriously hurt. Was it your fault? Some seem to think so. You recall hearing of others giving into anger or despair in such a situation; trying to pin the blame on someone else, or giving up or becoming self-destructive.
But you are more determined than ever to make things right, take responsibility and see that no one else is hurt.
1. Kyrie – Call for help.
Kyrie, eleison Christe, eleison Kyrie, eleison |
Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. |
“God, something has gone terribly wrong. I don’t know what happened, but I am being blamed for this. I have no idea what to do now, but I won’t give up. If you are our Father then I am your child, and I don’t think you can ignore me. I will go on trying to do my best to do what is right, reasoning, feeling, working. But please help guide me to do the right thing.”
Psalm 6:2 – Have mercy upon me, O Lord; for I am weak: O Lord, heal me; for my bones are vexed.
Psalm 18:6 – In my distress I called to the Lord; I cried to my God for help.
Psalm 28:2 – Hear my cry for mercy as I call to you for help, as I lift up my hands toward your Most Holy Place.
You are exhaust yourself in prayer, but you are now very still, and very receptive, ready for a response. Deep stillness is called meditation or contemplative prayer. Even Jesus went to be alone for 40 days. Now you make a supreme effort to be still and take your mind away from thoughts, hopes and fears; and simply be receptive to the spirit that is always with you. We often get lost in grasping for things and ideas. Being receptive is being calmly attentive. If the Kingdom of God is within you, as Jesus says, then we must go inside to truly understand life.
