Pater noster – Mass of the Divine Song
5. Pater noster – Private vigil.
Pater noster, qui es in caelis: sanctificetur nomen tuum; adveniat regnum tuum; fiat voluntas tua, sicut in caelo, et in terra. Panem nostrum cotidianum da nobis hodie; et dimitte nobis debita nostra, et ne nos inducas in tentationem; Quia tuum est regnum, et potestas, |
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses And lead us not into temptation, For Thine is the kingdom, and the power |
Think of a knight of old, preparing for a battle. All night he is in a prayer vigil, reviewing his heart, praying that he be right and just. He does not fight for his own gain, but to uphold justice, honor, truth. If his enemy were to give up, this worthy knight would embrace him as brother and work toward mutual harmony. Now you take the same vow. “God, help me always keep in mind truth and goodwill toward all. Jesus did not mind even the crucifixion, because it did not destroy him. He showed us that spirit is more powerful, more elemental than matter.”
Matthew 6:6 – But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
Ephesians 6:14 – Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Psalm 104:34 – My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the Lord.
Psalm 18:39 – For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me.
