Concert Piece for Piano and Band
This one movement concerto was written with the idea of giving bands the experience of playing a classical concerto, as well as giving band directors a piece with which to attract a fine pianist into his program.
Here is the 2011 performance of Kevin Weed with Newport Harbor High School Sailor band, Rob Henthorn, director.
Concert Piece was written in sonata form, like the first movement of a classical concerto. The development includes a drum line section, a piano and marimba duet, a fugal section and cadenza.
The solo piano part requires an advanced student with a teacher willing to assist in preparation. Or you may wish to invite an adult pianist or teacher to perform with you. Composer Kevin Weed is happy to assist with coaching or as a guest performer.
