Old World Overture
Old World Overture was written to be paired with Beethoven’s Mass in C, using the same orchestration and written in a classical/romantic style.
It was written for joint concert with Orange County Catholic Chorale and “Meistersingers”, May, 2009 The major work was to be Beethoven’s Mass in C.
I suggested to conductor Brian Dehn that he include an original instrumental overture in the concert, since he was hiring a good orchestra.
He agreed and so I wrote this piece using the same orchestration Beethoven used in his Mass in C:
2222 2200 timp. strings
(2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons,
2 horns, 2 trumpets, timp. strings);
length, about 8 ½ min.
However, I did write it for modern instruments (like pedal timpani) and modern transpositions.
