Beyond The Sea, Arrangement
By Charles Trenet and Jack Lawrence, arr. Kevin Weed. Originally called La Mer.
This energetic arrangement for Solo and SSAATB a capella choir was written for the Corona Del Mar High School Madrigal Singers.
This is a happy song. Smile and sing to the audience. Make the audience smile. The choir is a sort of Greek chorus, commenting on and reacting to the solo.
Can you find the Easter Eggs: quotes from Handel’s Water Music, Debussy’s La Mer, and others?
I think this arrangement really benefits from acting, looks, facial expressions, and movement.
This is a happy song. Smile and sing to the audience. Make the audience smile.
Choir is a sort of Greek chorus, commenting on and reacting to the soloist.
By the way, Corona Del Mar High School Madrigal Singers, the first choir to sing this, used two
soloists; two guys competing for attention.
